Chapman was a scientist, who was researching on how to improve the environment to make both people and Pokémon happy. Seeing the area around him was withering and Pokémon were leaving the place, Chapman tried to do his best to restore the area. Since Chapman was gravely ill, he invented a robot named Robon, who was to plant seeds to revive the area, before Chapman died.
